Vitalik Buterin, one of the cofounders of Ethereum, is a Russian-Canadian programmer who was born in 1994, in Moscow. He was active in the Bitcoin community in 2011, and in 2013 began working on a next-generation blockchain technology called Ethereum. The general goal of Ethereum is to be a platform for decentralized applications.
In this article, we will talk about the co-founders of Ethereum and where are they now?
Ethereum is without a doubt one of the biggest cryptocurrency, smart contract and dapp development platforms today. When we talk about the founders of such a big unicorn in the crypto industry, only Vitalik Buterin comes to mind. Ethereum was certainly Vitalik’s idea, but it has grown into what it is today with the right care from the right people. To your surprise, there were 8 founders of Ethereum who made Ethereum, Ethereum, Ethereum.
Vitalik Buterin is the current co-founder of Ethereum. Ethereum is his invention that has gone through many updates and iterations to become stronger and more efficient. He first worked with the Mastercoin team to make their project more general and efficient. But because Mastercoin had already invested a lot of work into their project, they weren’t ready to go down the path Vitalik suggested. And soon, the first Ethereum white paper project called Ethereum: The ultimate platform for smart contracts and autonomous businesses on the blockchain.
Gavin Wood is a former CTO and co-founder of Ethereum. He proposed Solidity, a language for writing smart contracts. He reached out to Vitalik on the about.me page, making Ethereum a platform to create programmable currency. He is currently the founder, CTO and President of Parity Technologies, a company that develops client protocols for easy interaction with the Ethereum blockchain. Gavin Wood is also the founder of Polkadot, which has become one of the most popular blockchain networks in recent times.
Jeffrey Wilke also joined the team around the same time as Gavin. He was the lead developer of the Go client (which was then called Ethereal). His contribution was more on the side of client development than on the side of protocol. He is currently the founder of Grid Games, which he launched 7 months ago in January 2018.
For 6 months, Charles was the CEO of Ethereum. Vitalik has a conflict of interest on whether Ethereum is a profitable organization or not. He left Ethereum shortly after 6 months and co-founded IOHK with another Ethereum user, Jeremy Wood. The main project of IOHK is Cardano, and it also uses Ethereum classic. He is now the founder of Cardano and the chief advisor to Ethereum classic.
After reading the initial white paper, Anthony devoted his resources and full attention to building a team to implement the Ethereum project, and co-founded Ethereum. He is currently the founder of Decentral Inc, whose product is the Jaxx wallet. Jaxx is one of the most popular ERC20 portfolios today. In early 2013, he founded the Bitcoin Alliance of Canada (now Blockchain Alliance) and was elected its first Executive Director.
Joseph is co-founder and COO of Ethereum. He helped create the Ethereum Foundation to make Ethereum decentralized and independent. Shortly after Ethereum, he also founded ConsenSys Systems, which develops decentralized applications and utilities for Ethereum. ConsenSys is one of the largest Ethereum development companies. He is currently a co-founder of Ethereum and founder of ConsenSys.
Mihai was the founder of Bitcoin Magazine, a well-known media platform dedicated to bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. He found Vitalik’s article interesting and invited him to help found Bitcoin Magazine. Later, when Vitalik came up with the idea of Ethereum, he served as Ethereum’s Chief Innovation Officer and Vice President of the Ethereum Foundation. He is currently active in his AKASHA project, a decentralized social network. He is also an advisor for the Aragon project.
Before Ethereum, Vitalik worked with Amir on a project called Colorful Coins in Israel. When he created Ethereum, Vitalik brought in Amir to help him with Ethereum. Amir is now the head of Alchemist Israel, which supported Ethereum in its early days.
So we can see that some of the greatest minds in the industry were behind the development of Ethereum. It was a really great team that revolutionized the ultra-centralized industry. Ethereum is without a doubt the most versatile and important blockchain project today.
